These involve assessing an individual’s capacity to understand, retain, use and communicate information relevant to a particular decision or situation. Assessments of capacity usually require the administration of a range of tests of cognitive ability that include measures of intellect, comprehension and memory. This information is then considered in association with that obtained from interviewing the client and, on occasions, others involved in their care.
